Orthogonal Audio has introduced RedLion, a powerful frequency modulating soft synth, available in both VST and AU formats for Windows and MacOS.
RedLion is designed to be a performance-orientated FM synth, with controls laid out for immediacy.

This looks interesting. There’s a gap in the market for a non DX7 FM synth that works on Macs, doesn’t cost the earth and isn’t a nightmare to program. Sadly the developer of The Tangle is not working on his synths at the moment, so this could be one to watch.
What about NI FM8?
Yeah, that’s the big one and I guess it’s not really a DX7 emu.
Also, once you’ve added VAT to the price of RedLion, FM8 is not hugely more expensive.

He is referring to the use-ability of the GUI not whether it is sexy or flashy. Believe it or not some people are focused on practical matters more than eye candy.
