In his latest video, Espen Kraft demonstrates sequencing with a Roland MSQ-700, a vintage 8-track MIDI sequencer.
“I use this for more pattern-based grooves, fast sketches and arpeggios,” notes Kraft. “No hidden menus, chunky ‘good-feel’ buttons and a cool futuristic (in 1983) look that today has gone full circle and it looks cooler than ever.”
Started out with MSQ-100 and then jumped to the MC-500 but this was still an awesome sequencer.
no swing/shuffle?
looks easy until you make a mistake and want to correct just one note length and another single note position manually….then the fiddling and head-scratching starts
I implemented a small box to add a transpose feature to the msq 700. I can customise it (size, functions), according to your needs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNE9XY0z6pw
squarepusher did all his biggest tracks on one of these. when i told a guy in a store who had a couple he said the guy must have been clinically insane.
Actually it was the Yamaha QY700 that Squarepusher used, which is a far more comprehensive and complex sequencer.
