Cool, I did the same removing also the bottom, to make it more compact, using only the keyboard circuit with more proper heavy-duty array of foot switches.
Would have been easier, more sturdy and better looking to mount 4 cheap foot switches on a woodboard and solder them to the pcb of a USB NumPad or a 4-button mouse…..
Shoot and post that ASAP!!!! Sounds like a winner!!!
