Sunday Synth Jam: Synthesist and writer Jim Aikin shared this video for his ambient modular synthesizer performance, Herons.
Aikin is known to many synthesists for his decades of work for Keyboard and Electronic Musician magazines. Here he applies his experience to creating a generative soundscape, using the open source software modular synthesizer VCV Rack.
Here’s what Aikin has to say about the music:
The audio is from VCV Rack. This started out as a tutorial from Omri Cohen on how to create generative music … not that I’m unfamiliar with how to do that, but Omri often shows off a few neat techniques I hadn’t thought of.
As I followed his steps I started adding a few ideas of my own. And then a nice video. Enjoy!
This is fantastic. Beautiful tones and textures. Sounds very human. Love what you’re doing with VCV RACK!?
congrats, jim. very nice work!
btw, i read your great keyboard mag items for 20 odd years. is it possible to post the various modules you used in the VCV rack for this recording? is there a config file that you used for the specific setup?
thanks, rob
I second this.
There is so much potential in VCV Rack…………this is really nice…………well done Jim!
Wow
Very cool. Thanks for posting.
