Expressive E, creators of the Touché expressive controller, have introduced the Arché Collection, a new plug-in suite containing three realistic physical models of Violin, Viola and Cello.
Arché simulates the physics of a real bow striking real strings in ‘painstaking detail’, leading to a level of realism that they say ‘has never been heard before in simulated string instruments. played with a keyboard interface”. While designed for the fullest integration using Expressive E Touché and Touché SE controllers, users can also enjoy most functions of Arché using standard MIDI keyboard controllers.
Here’s a video intro, and examples of each virtual instrument:

Wow – But need to try before I get one. Using that controller for bowing looks interesting.
Would have loved to have seen/heard a double-bass, as well.
There is a violin option for Reaktor, (can’t remember what it’s called). There’s FingerFiddle for iOS, which is decent. But this Arche seems richer and more responsive.
