Pricing and Availability
The 8DIO Sequential Prophet T8 Add-On is available now for US $48.
I just want that fantastic polyphonic aftertouch keyboard used on the Prophet T8 and the Synclavier!
Pay $50 for 16-bit samples to put on a $5000 synth. Sure, why not.
All the samples on the PX are 16 bit. What’s the problem? I had a conversation with the guys from 8DIO when I dropped in at Sequential (still DSI at the time) to get a preview of the PX. One of the 8DIO guys went on at length about how 16 bit is way more than adequate for this application.
I recently picked up the Arp 2600 expansion. I wish it was a lot more extensive, but it sounded great through the stereo filter.
Is this why Dave Smith made the Prophet X — to play samples of his other synths?
No, which is why there are thousands of non-synth-based samples included, but mimicking old synths is obviously a thing the Prophet X can do.
No there are not thousands of non-synth based sounds. 8dio is focusing on synths. They said so themselves.
Yes, there are thousands of non-synth based sounds. The bulk of the samples in the PX are not synth samples.
If I could afford a Prophet X, aping even Dave’s early beauties would seem like a bit of an underuse. I can build an OB-X in software if I want that, so retro sounds mean far less than a P-X’s own powers. Its HUGE, for bleep’s sake! I sure don’t mind if someone loves the T-8, ’cause I’ve played one, but I’m waiting to see what kind of more original/experimental sound sets appear. It’ll import user sounds, so hopefully, there is some Astounding waiting in the wings.
