Mazetools has introduced Mutant, a new multi-platform application that lets you make music with tesseracts, a four-dimensional hypercube of sound.
Mutant lets you record and play back loops, similar to the way you might work with traditional loopers. But Mutant lets you interact with your sounds in new ways.
You can switch between 8 variations of your created musical piece that differ in chords, speed and pitch. Seven cubes with different acoustic environments and styles give you further diversity. You can save your sessions by taking snapshots of your states and recording your performance to an audio file.
Here’s a video intro:
Pricing and Availability
Confusing, jarring, over-the-top. Maybe I just don’t see it the way Futurama Homer Simpson does
It’s cool to see different approaches to music but at the end of the day conventionality rules
You can do all this space-age dancing around with your fingers and hands on a glass surface…or you can just grab a knob or slider labeled appropriately
I’ll stick with a 2 dimensional sequencer
A 2D sequencer? What an interesting idea. Your parameters would be what? Frequency & volume? Hope you’re not adding a 3rd dimension, time!!! kidding aside, my disinterest in their stuff is because it’s not AU3 compliant. It would be pretty cool to have a 4D system for controlling arbitrary knobs of something.
Glad we can have some fun Aaron! Cheers
(Still a 2-d kinda guy though. You can’t persuade me otherwise ;D )
Hi, Mutant is about new approaches to make music and have fun through experimentation. The multiperspective view on a composition intends to use the effect of musical changes and give inspiration to try something new. The way how parameters can be changed using up to 4 points on a XY surface can be found at several conventional tools as well. Unfortunately physical knobs and sliders in combination with music hardware are not accessible for everyone. So, this 5$ experiment might be an introduction to further, more advanced audio creation tools 😉
Just crashes on launch for me. iPad Air II running 12.4.6
Hi! It`s fixed! Kind regards
Running mine on an iPad Air2 12.4.6 ….running Grrrrreate
I ahd the same problem on the previous iOS version. Upgraded to 12.4.6 with no change. Tried restarting the iPad. Still no luck. Hopefully they’ll update it soon and fix this problem.
Hi, Sorry for experiencing the crashes. We’re working currently on an update. Kind regards
Great! Thanks, really looking forward to checking it out
Just updated. Still crashes.
Hi! It`s fixed! Kind regards
i love these kinds of synths and especially these kinds of GUIs because its so fun when you get into that “zone” where your playing becomes lyrical… its far more interesting than standard instruments in terms of the emotional and mental feedback
sigh… underwhelmed. And even though ‘how we interface with music’ is a worthwhile project to pursue, this is not the answer.
i wonder if you will be able to use your own loops and create your own environments or tesseracts?
Yeah, that’s planned! To migrate functions of Soniface into Mutant like the granular sampler.
