Electrosmith has released the Daisy Patch, described as “a metamorphic sound environment capable of becoming an infinite variety of digital instruments.”
Daisy Patch is based on the Daisy embedded DSP platform and features quad 24-bit audio IO. The hardware itself is a blank slate that can be loaded with a variety of firmware files. This library of instrument files includes samplers, granular processors, physical modeling voices, and more, and requires no special software to upload other than a web browser.
The firmware is open source. You can also develope custom firmware files, using Pure Data, Arduino, Max/MSP ~gen, or C++.

I guess ESD isn’t a thing anymore.
Seems similar to OWL modular…there have been Several attempts at these sort of open source programmable modules, I am just not sure it is what I am looking for…I got to my modular to get away from computers and have some knob turning simplicity.
