To celebrate its 5th year and 20th release, cassette label Ultraviolet Light has cooked up something truly special: Buchla Now, a collection of new music created on synthesizers designed by Don Buchla.
Buchla Now features music from Marcia Bassett, Suzanne Ciani, Dan Deacon, Jonathan Fitoussi, Steve Horelick, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Hans Tammen, and compilation curator Todd Barton.
Ciani once said of Don Buchla that his “unique mindset allowed him to be outside the popular notion of what electronic music was.” Each of the featured artists, in their own way, carries on this tradition of boundary-pushing music, expanding the notion of what music can be.
You can preview the album below. It’s available on cassette via the label and digitally via Bandcamp:
Tracks:
A1. Jonathan Fitoussi, Planète Sauvage (Buchla Music Easel)
A2. Todd Barton, Apeiron (Buchla Music Easel)
A3. Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Moon like a Marble (Buchla Music Easel)
A4. Marcia Bassett, Influence Scrambler (Buchla 200 Modular)
B1. Dan Deacon, Unseen Objects (Buchla Easel Command)
B2. Hans Tammen, ääniä (Buchla Music Easel)
B3. Steve Horelick, Spirals of an Inner Life (Buchla Music Easel and Buchla 200e)
B4. Suzanne Ciani, Empty Skies (Buchla 200e)
Suzanne Ciani’s “Empty Skies” is extraordinary.
It is by doing anything, that we become anyone…
Very nice stuff, where can I find the cassette version?

Good question. Have you tried the 1980s?
No need to time travel, smug. it’s for purchase on the website of the label: Ultraviolet Light. They’re worth following!
If it’s not on wax cylinder I’m not interested.
Pathetic! Everyone knows that the Phonautograph is the superior way to enjoy music.
Negative Dacci. All music should be reduced to its base classes: voice and log drum

LOL LOL LOL!
Good one
We added a direct link in the article.
Let’s be honest – it’s nothing special. And track 8???
I thought the same. Seems more like “Wow – it’s made with Buchla” and “Cool, it’s on cassette”…..
Is it weird that there are no Buchla systems or modules in the Pic?
Love tracks 7 and 8. Great opener by Todd and rad closer by Hans too, brings a nice balance to the more ambient stuff.
Awesome. Just ordered the cassette.
