Yarra Audio has released a free Kontakt sample instrument, P511, based on samples made with a 5U modular synthesizer.
Here’s what the developer has to say about it:
“P511 brings the beautiful analog tone from the raw analog oscillators combined with the convenience of a virtual instrument and expand its capabilities in a way where musicians wouldn’t be limited by predefined sounds, but have total freedom to manipulate and create their own soundscape by controlling the parameters on the instrument interface.
The instrument is laid out in a simple and logical way, which makes it easy to understand its signal flow. Each module represents one of the building blocks of a classic subtractive synthesizer architecture.
Each oscillator has been carefully recorded from two distinct oscillators units and for that reason P511 keeps the characteristic of the original hardware.”
It’s available now as a free download.
Note: This requires the full version of Kontakt 6.6.1 or above.
There is something positive to be said for left-field freebies. Don’t dismiss them too easily. I have a folder of modular event WAVs that are mostly just weird, but some are great bridges or rhythm beds. A few were especially inspiring and became springboards for whole new pieces. Its a welcome addition for modular-challenged types like me.
