Here’s a sneak preview of the SnapBeat – a simple lofi sampler that’s designed to be simple and fun to use.
The developer notest that “the sounds are true Lo-fi”. SnapBeat uses a voice recorder chip that is widely used in sound and voice toys. The chip records analog sound directly, without analog to digital conversion. So, “although the sampling frequency bandwidth is narrow, the sound is smooth and live.”
Features:
- sample and truncate sound
- live play
- compose rhythm patterns
- compose track (song)
- connect headphones and speakers
- number of voice channels : 8
- sampling frequency : about 20kHz (high quality sampling) / about 12kHz (low quality sampling)
- maximum sample length per channel : about 6 sec. (high quality sampling) / about 12 sec. (low quality sampling)
- maximum number of rhythm patterns : 8
- maximum track (song) length : a song consists of 64 rhythm patterns maximum and a pattern consists of 2 bar
Pricing and Availability:
SnapBeat is available as a DIY project or assembled for $180.
great looking product! not for me, but i love the look. it’s got an old Dictaphone style to it. would love to see the victrola dog image on it too.
Wish they’d add MIDI in and the ability to play a single sample with polyphony. They’d probably sell 5 times as many.
He did! I am testing it as we speak. I mean I don’t want to influence anyone by rambling about how I utilize it mostly, but I’ll safely vouch for it regardless of experience etc :/
Bravo! This really gives a Casio SK-1 a run for its money.
I kind of like the late 80’s Atari / Amiga styling of the case.
However, I’m struggling to find why I’d buy this.
There are so many things that sample much better than this for less money. The Pocket Operator PO-33 for example.
You could even pick up a Casio SK for about the same amount.
