France & UNESCO Announce Jean-Michel Jarre Mixed-Reality Christmas Concert

UNESCO, The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, and the French Ministry of Culture have announced Versailles 400, a mixed-reality concert by Jean-Michel Jarre, scheduled for Dec 25, 2023.

The show will be filmed at the Château de Versailles, and broadcast on French (Groupe M6-W9) and international TV channels via Eurovision Services / UER, on radio (RTL), online via digital platforms (Jarre’s YouTube channel), and in virtual reality on the French VRROOM platform.

The Palace of Versailles, whose origins date back to the seventeenth century, was successively a hunting lodge, a seat of power and, from the nineteenth century, a museum. With the gardens and the Palaces of Trianon, the park of the Château de Versailles spreads over 800 hectares.

Versailles 400 is a hybrid artistic creation, created by Jean-Michel Jarre to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Château de Versailles. Jarre will perform this concert simultaneously in front of a real audience in the Hall of Mirrors, and in the metaverse in the center of a futuristic Hall of Mirrors, with a virtual audience connected in VR or on tablets and smartphones.

“Versailles 400 is a hybrid concert and visual creation, broadcast live from one of the world’s most beautiful locations, as well as in virtual reality in the metaverse,” says Jarre. “I hope the event will help promote our creative savoir-faire and bring the world of French immersive creation to the forefront of collective culture.”

Tickets are available at the event site.

  1. I remember 40 years ago, when as a kid i loved listening to his fantastic music. But now… if it wasn’t so outdated, it would be dystopian as hell. At this time we need music to bring people together for real, not an old musician showcasing his vision of a future stuck in the 90s in the vestiges of a past monarchy. Please spent your Christmas day with your family or friends, not in VR. Check past attempts of JMJ VR shows in links below, that’s pittyful money is spent to develop that, including a lot of public money. JMJ is at the head of a commission for immersive creation in a governemental culture agency in France, with a few millions of euros of budget… So much wasted money for the Metaverse.

    1. Okay, so that is one person who is definitely not going to watch / listen / AR. Trying to gauge the wider feeling from this I’m worried my sample is not statistically significant.

JMJ brings an acoustic experience to millions that don’t know or care about electronic music or synth specs. His success lifts the whole scene.

      1. I do not hear any people revolution either 🙂 People who got money will be able to buy tickets for the real event (very limited tickets available, 60 to 300€ – with dining cocktail and Champagne for this moxt expansive option), people with enough money to afford VR equipment will try to attend to the virtual event, hoping it goes better than the previous times). People with money will watch it on youtube. So at the end, i’m not sure you will see that much common people like me in the Versailles castle this night. Nothing new here, after all it’s an event to celebrate the castle anniversary.

    2. I have to agree to this. His New Year VR concert was already quite rubbish. JMJs old records are still emotional to listen to, as it had vibes that his last techno attempts really lack. But this “meeting in virtuality instead reality” completely sucks. Especially at Christmas – as above mentioned. That’s not the spirit of 25. December…..

  2. In the project “forget God”, and therefore “destroy man”, a lot of money is invested.
For those who don’t know, “Metaverse” is another name for “eugenics”.

    Yuval Noah Harari:
“First solve the technological problem of human death, by technical solutions. And then, increase human happiness…”
[With regard to] increasing human happiness; quote: “to turn Homo sapiens into Homo Deus”.

In other words, turn people into “gods”. The project is being worked on by JMJ, UNESCO, UN, WHO, WEF and others.

Of course, this portal does not deal with these issues, but like other portals, it only informs the public in which direction today’s “culture” and the music industry are moving.

Anyone who doesn’t see it, will probably soon become a member of the ”Metaverse world”.
