Frap Tools shared this video, exploring recreating the the Korg Mini Pops percussion sounds and pattern that Jean-Michel Jarre used in his classic Oxygène, using a Eurorack modular synthesizer.
This is probably a case of “the journey is the destination”. The final result sounds close to sound of the Mini Pops, but not as accurate as sample-based virtual instruments and sound libraries.
But, the process of creating patches to recreate the Mini Pops’ sounds offers a better understanding of how those vintage sounds are synthesized, and also an understanding of how you can use a modular system to create a wider and more creative range of percussive sounds.
i love the way this guy talks, good sample material
I thought it was the EKO Drum Computer he used, but nevertheless an excellent recreation of the sound
