Cableguys and composer/synthesist BT have introduced Snapback, an “instant drum layering effect”, for Mac & Windows.
Snapback does realtime layering and transformation of drum sounds, featuring a library of samples from drum designers BT, Goldbaby, Virtual Riot and Cyclic, detailed editing capabilities and and a built-in limiter.
Here’s how it works:
“Add Snapback as an effect to any drum track and it detects each hit, layering new samples on top in perfect time. Stack a click on a dull kick for instant attack. Layer stereo sizzle onto thin snares. Beef up boring hits with analog sauce samples. Add punch, style and flair in a way that EQ, compression and distortion cannot.
Next, add missing groove and magic with the one-of-a-kind Snapback section that places a special “snapback” sample before each hit: a quick “whip” of reversed sound that gives digital hits a lively, believable attack.
Never before possible in a plugin, this secret trick of pro producers for animated grooves is now only clicks away. Get classic pre-shifted claps in seconds. Add unique reversed textures before kicks and snares. And avoid boring, over-quantized grooves with exciting between-the-beats motion.”

can’t track or mix down? let the machine do it for you! you’re a real studio engineer now!
If you’ve ever “tracked or mixed down”, you know how much time a tool like this can save.
It’s a tool. If you don’t like it, don’t use it. I’ll bet you already use SOME tools and machines to help you do your job.
so many tools out there
“Sample import – Drag any sample straight onto the Transient or Snapback layer. Store it to your library permanently with a click of the Save button.”
“Not limited to kicks, claps and snares – you can use Snapback on anything.”
These two features alone make it worth $29 IMO.
I wish BT would/could lean on Izotope to do a maintenance or full-and-proper update to BreakTweaker.
+1
He’s working with Soundlabs on BreakTweaker 2.
A brief look this morning tells me it’s a smart and affordable VST to add some time saving spice to drums, (and other rhythm tracks) it gets a +1 from me, for ticking a bunch of producer boxes. 1: can be added to older tracks, for remix duties 2: Has a clean and useable Ui 3: Is affordable 4: Is a solution I have never heard of unique in it’s execution. I will deeper dive later, but I can see it fitting into my VST folder.
