Developer Alex Radzishevsky let us know that they’ve released a new freeware tool that’s designed for “acoustic audio de-duplication”.
AFT SonicDeCloner is built to recognize acoustically similar audio files, or “clones”, across various formats by using advanced acoustic fingerprinting technology. The tool “listens “to audio files, and can identify duplicates originating from the same performance or recording, regardless of file compression, format or sound quality.
Radzishevsky says that the tool is designed for audiophiles, DJs, sound engineers, and music enthusiasts, helping you manage audio collections, removing unnecessary duplicates for a more organized, streamlined library.
Features:
- Acoustic-level detection: utilizes sophisticated acoustic fingerprinting algorithm (AFT) to analyze actual sound content, not just file metadata or binary data
- Format and compression agnostic: works with all major audio formats and codecs
- Robust: works with distorted, pitch-shifted and speed-altered audio
- Freeware – free for non-commercial use
- Cross-platform software: Windows, Mac OS, Linux
- Portable, does not require installation
- Works offline and is fully stand-alone
- Supports for batch processing via the command line
- Old-school text interface
Availability:
AFT SonicDeCloner is available as a free download for Windows. Mac OS & Linux builds are also available.
Do they have one that works on websites?
yes, and its powered with unicorn blood and eye of newt
20 year old storage dedup tech finally meets the music industry, and its ‘new’! lol.
lolol 😀
Looked at their website and this is not a company I would trust with their products installed on my computer.
apparently many broadcasting companies seem to disagree with you. also the guy seems to have 3 verifyable patents on this tech, looks legit to me
eh, nothing new there. just long tortuous claims to get some kind of patent on something for marketing to work with. they might be legit, but tech-wise, nothing to see here.
Isn’t that always your point? “I’m getting older and set in my ways, so nothing is new”
I think this is different than just finding file dupes.
As an aside, I keep an old Macbook around to use my favorite file duplicate utility, called Chipmunk. At some point, it stopped working on MacOS, though the version on the App Store says it will work, I don’t believe that is correct.
If this will find similar audio, even if it is in a different format, or otherwise has other different file content; that could be useful. However, I hesitate to trust a utility like this.
why do you hesitate to trust a utility like this, could you expound?
I’m being extra cautious about any utility that “helps” delete files on my drive.
This is incredibly helpful. Thank you Alex!
this isnt made to manage your samples!
its made to manage your music collection …
“removing unnecessary duplicates for a more organized, streamlined library.”
will mess up your sample folders quicker than you can say oh shit. ^^
