Tiptop Audio & Buchla USA have released the Frequency Shifter Model 285t, a Eurorack format reissue of the original 200 series module from 1971.
The Model 285t combines two functions in one module, frequency shifting and ring modulation. It’s the latest in Tiptop Audio’s Euro format reissues of classic Buchla 200 Series modules.
Here’s what they have to say about the 285t:
“The theory of shifting frequencies using analog multipliers was first invented in the early 1900s. However, in 1971, Don Buchla took this concept and explored how it could interact with the audio signals of his modular synthesizer.
By combining it with a balanced modulator into a single module, he likely created one of the world’s first analog audio effect processor modules.”

“However, in 1971 … he likely created one of the world’s first analog audio effect processor modules.”
That’s a stretch considering Harald Bode invented his frequency shifter (as an audio effect) in 1964. And they go farther back than that.
“one of the world’s first analog audio effect processor modules.”
There really weren’t a lot of modular effects until the modular renaissance in the last 20 years.
Seems this does stereo, or possibly psuedo stereo when used right? I was really close to picking up a Xaoc Koszalin though now with this being released I might go go this route.
