This laid-back synth jam, via the nightwater, features the sounds of a minimal setup, including Moog Mother-32 and Dave Smith Instruments Tempest drum machine.
While the gear used is fairly minimal, the jam still sounds complete and rich, because of effective arrangement.
Here’s what they shared about the technical details:
“Quick jam using the Moog Mother 32 for the lead and bass sounds. Dave Smith Tempest analog drum machine on the drums, UDO Super 6 for some background pads, and Strymon Bigsky Mx Reverb on everything.”
Ah, Tempest! Among the last pieces of gear I’d sell. I use it mainly as a six monosynths for droning (well, five, due to a voice restart hiccip that gives an annoying tick sound). Takes a bit of getting used to (and the flow is hard to recall after a few months of no use), Used to hate the fact the samples are non-replacable, but there’s a lot of useful stuff to color its conventional analog sound into much stranger territories.
Abysmal machine. You could barely call it a drum machine. I disliked it for all the reason you just mentioned. It was a polysynth with a drum sequencer crudely tacked on. And don’t get me started on the firmware. Had to sign a petition to get any in the end. Sold it and got the Rytm Mk1 as soon as it came out. A superior drum machine in absolutely every aspect except may the pads. The tempest had nice pads
