Ambient Synth Performance With Moog Subharmonicon & Mother-32

Synthesist Frédéric Kuyl (No Lake) shared this ambient synth performance, performed with a minimal setup of a Moog Subharmonicon & Mother-32 Eurorack synths.

I wanted to close the year with the best of myself,” notes Kuyl. “I don’t think I’ve ever been so psychically invested in a jam. I am in love with both of these machines. Nothing less, nothing more.”

  1. Loving the sound of the Sub H here! Proper CS vibes! (Love to know details of THAT patch – it’s the best I have personally heard the Sub H sound).

People say both of these two are one trick pony’s , but the trouble is, that one trick that they do, they do oh so well!!! Stick a long reverb on them and they really do sound out of this world!….

Lovely stuff! (And convinced me that [if I needed it – which I didn’t], that both of these are worth every penny moog charges for them)!

One day!, one day……. (Not soon, but one day)….

  2. First: this is not a jam with only Subharmonicon and Mother 32! There is no note about what fx is used, though it plays a part much bigger than those two Moogs together! Especially in this kind of ambient electronic music.
And I think the mix is not finished for this kind of music….wonder if Frédéric has even listened to it on earphones, while trying to relax, or meditate??
Other than that, I think it’s nice!

  3. Does anyone else wonder why we’re still at just 8-128 polyphony in 2024? Could not a modern gpu offer so much more. Ray-trace the Taj Mahal in 4k real-time using hardware but not a hardware synth???

    1. Due to the technology used. Your organ uses octave divider tech: (ie, 12 oscillators generated the 12 notes and dividers are in charge of generating each octave for each note). So in reality you have only 12 oscillators … This is how 70s string machines used to work etc.

    1. As long as musicians prefer the physical interaction with hardware it’ll still be around.
You surely could not have missed that the niche world of synthesizers are highly driven by customer demand? After all you’re here…

Nice bit of music btw! 🙂
