PPG Back With W2.2 x 4 Dual Wavetable Oscillator

German synthesizer brand PPG is making an official comeback, in the form of a collaboration between Cornel Hecht (Hell Modular) and the Liquid Sky Artist collective.

The first release in this revival is the W2.2×4 Eurorack module, a 3U dual wavetable oscillator, featuring all the original wavetables from the classic PPG Wave 2.2 from 1982. Each oscillator is equipped with a sub-bass generator, overdrive, and a built-in VCA, which they say deliver “the classic PPG sound in a modern modular format.”

They add that the PPG W2.2×4 can sound extremely true to the original, or introduce new sonic nuances through its VCA/overdrive section.

Pricing and Availability:

The PPG W2.2×4 module will be available in two editions, both priced at $737.00 USD:

  • Limited Edition: Black front panel, strictly limited to 127 units. Shipping begins this month.
  • Standard Edition: Blue front panel, unlimited production. Shipping starts before Superbooth.

Note: PPG is a trademark of the Native Instruments Group, and the new module is branded as PPG through a licensed agreement with them.

  1. $737

Im all for free market prices and the understanding of R&D costs etc, etc, etc. but this be like “oh hey PPG has image clout so pay big bucks for a module that had limited CV capabilities”

  2. Wow. This is really cool. Native instruments in the game, eh? Just wish it could be a bit more inexpensive but the idea is really a synth lovers dream….

  3. So NI own the rights to the PPG brand? Must be why Waldorf got rid of the PPG logo in their nost recent update for the Wave 3.V VST, which I always thought was a shame!

  4. It’s a bit larger than I’d prefer, but I think I can make it work. The price seems reasonable, and I’m excited to check out the full specs

  5. I can buy a Behringer Wave for less than this module and it has patch memory, filters, midi, wave table loading. etc. This is way way too expensive for a wavetable VCO. With all the people wanting their cut, a $50 set of parts ends up at $737 retail. What a shame…

  6. I just searched TMView. Native Instruments does not hold a trademark for PPG. Brainworx Audio GmbH registered PPG for software synthesizers in 2020, but I don’t think they have released anything.
