SRM Sounds & Max Richter Intro ‘Valley Forge’ Virtual Instrument, Inspired By Silent Running

SRM Sounds, in collaboration  with composer Max Richter, has introduced Valley Forge, a new virtual instrument inspired by the ’70s sci-fi film Silent Running.

Here’s what they have to say about it:

“Taking its name from the spaceship in Silent Running, Valley Forge draws inspiration from themes including space, environment and nature, and explores the relationship between the organic and the technicological.

At the heart of this carefully curated assembly of instruments is an expansive sampling session with an extraordinary 15-piece timpani ensemble. Performed by world-class percussionists at Studio Richter Mahr, the library features a number of classic acoustic timpani instruments: hits, clusters, rolls, superballs and FX, all with their own custom controls.

Alongside those, the recordings have been processed via an array of analogue electronic devices to form a unique drone instrument, and, in addition, Max’s original Minimoog has been sampled and included as an essential synth accompaniment. All of these instruments share an FX hub which are linked to keyswitches, and the result is a percussive, textural and tonal super-device that allows for an infinite exploration of sonics, and is perfect for scores and works that call for an outer and otherworldliness.”

Features:

  • 8 instruments total ~9.7GB
  • 6 timpani instruments
  • Drone instrument
  • Analogue synthesizer instrument
  • Multi-effects (also linked to keyswitches)
  • Custom effects and controls per instrument
  • Kontakt Player library (Version 6.8.0 or higher required)
  • NKS compatible

“These sounds are evocative of a spaciousness, with a darkness about them. There’s resonance and memory, and a sort of alien warmth in this material. And that comes from the fact that it has mostly organic origins. In a way Valley Forge is a kind of ode to an imaginary spaceship. And this is what it would sound like,” notes Max Richter

Pricing and Availability:

Valley Forge is available now with an intro price of £99 (normally £129).
