Casio MT-70 – A ‘Forgotten Gem’?

The latest video from David Hilowitz takes an in-depth look at the Casio MT-70, a ‘forgotten gem’ electronic keyboard/synthesizer from the early ’80s.

It’s not a classic, but it’s still an interesting keyboard and Hilowitz demonstrates how you can use it to create interesting soundscapes. If you like what you hear, though, Hilowitz has made a Casio MT-70 sound library available via Patreon.

  1. Some of those older Casios have a unique sound and vibe. It was almost like toy keyboard manufacturers were more experimental.

  2. That was my childhood synth in early 80s 🙂 After moving 3 countries I still have it with me in its original black plastic Casio case. The quirky rhythm section is waiting for the new Damon Albarn to make a hit from… maybe I’ll do it 😉

  3. interesting, but not what I’d call a gem. I had that VL-1 , same story. Useable and quirky, but not sufficiently universal when real estate is of the essence.
