Steinberg is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the VST standard by making five of its classic software instruments and effects available as a free download.
To mark 30 years since the introduction of Virtual Studio Technology (VST), Steinberg has released the free Steinberg Classics Collection, featuring several of its earliest software instruments and effects.
The collection includes updated VST3 versions of Neon, VB-1, Model E (formerly CS-40), LM-7, VB-1 and Karlette, preserving the original functionality while adding compatibility with current versions of Windows and macOS.
The bundle offers a chance to revisit some of the plugins that helped establish software instruments as a practical alternative to hardware in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

I still sometimes use the LM-7 drum samples, it will be fun to have this back.
Yeah, that’s great and all, but… please bring back the original Quadrafuzz!!!!!
I would love to see a free, updated take on the Steinberg ‘VoiceMachine’ plugin (itself a successor of an earlier plugin called ‘VoiceDesigner’). These were really fun to use.
As completely useless these old 30+ years ago plugins are in a modern ecosystem, at least they didn’t try to milk their customers by selling these, so that’s a positive…
Why are they useless?
Would you also call vintage synthesizers useless for modern music because they are old?
It doesn’t sound right, but after dl I found I still like the bass guitar plug.
100% useless even for free don’t see any reason using these. There are hundreds of free and much better ones out there. Dom again tries hard to convince us that those relics are still relevant ?.

downloader and activation software too, once all that is done and they are activated you can get rid of all of that stuff though. for fun i tried copying the activated vst3s over to another computer, they indeed needed to be activated on the second computer as well
